Dofheicthe

Dofheicthe is a moving-image work centred on Bly Island and the folklore surrounding the presence of a bean sí there. Filmed repeatedly from across the water, separate observations of the island are layered over one another, allowing different viewpoints and moments to coexist within a single image. As these accumulate, trees overlap, forms double and the landscape shifts between clarity and indiscernibility, creating a strange apparitional quality without attempting to represent the supernatural itself. Meaning invisible or indiscernible, Dofheicthe considers looking, distance and belief: how folklore can alter the way an otherwise ordinary landscape is perceived.
